On his way to an important meeting is Carlos Dos Santos where he intends to give a speech to the other Board members. He appears rather apathetic but nonetheless focused on the job that he has to do. Suddenly he is approached by his young female assistant Tammy, blonde, petite and extremely loyal to her boss despite his sometimes arrogant and demanding demeanor. Normally she is very up-beat and unfazed by all the negativity around her. This time though her mood is quite somber because of the news she has to deliver for Mr.Dos Santos.
Cammy: Mr.Dos Santos...I regret to inform you that Mr.Fishman has expired.
Initially staring at the immense oak wood doors, Dos Santos moves his head slightly over his right shoulder and tries his best to keep a straight face.
Carlos Dos Santos: Well, that's too bad...actually on second thought Tammy that is perfect. Thanks for letting me know because it'll give me more to talk about in my meeting.
Tammy: Ummm....aren't you at least a little bit upset sir? I understand that you and him didn't always see eye-to-eye especially when it came to money but...at the very least we should pay some respect. He was after all the most senior member of the Board. He's been with the company for years and even before that was a shareholder. Behind his frugality he seemed like a kind, gentle man who worked in the company's best interests for the time.
Carlos Dos Santos: What you have to understand Tammy is that everything I've ever wanted in life can now come to fruition. Mr.Fishman's fiscal policies truly prevented the company and Delta City especially from moving forward. All he ever cared about was money, and surprise, surprise look where it got him. He's dead with nothing to show for his pitiful life. I on the other hand am in a constant pursuit of happiness and greater well-being.
Tammy bites her bottom lip and for once is frustrated with her boss's viewpoints and lack of empathy.
Tammy: Ok sir, don't you think that is, well, at least a little bit harsh? Maybe you should talk to Jonathan and see how he's doing. Though if you ask me I believe he's handled himself quite well.
Carlos Dos Santos gives a slight smirk and chuckle at the idea of talking face-to-face with Jonathan Fishman.
Carlos Dos Santos: Well if he's handling himself well what's the point of talking to him? What I am? His therapist? If anything he's probably just as happy as I am now that he can move on with his, unknown to himself, ill-fated, pipe dream of a run for Board of Directors. As long as I am chairman, Jonathan will NEVER become a member. I have no intentions of letting him in no matter how large of a percentage he gets with the popular vote. Ultimately the final decision rests in my hands, not the people.
Tammy: What will you do if there are no other viable candidates? Everyone knows with his status here that Jonathan is theoretically a huge favorite to win the election. So far we have him, Petraeus, Snowjay, and Young.
Carlos Dos Santos: Ah yes, but Tammy you must understand that the race has just started, Fishman sr. hadn't even died yet and everyone was already talking about who would succeed him. I guarantee you Tammy that whoever gets in will be handpicked by myself, no ifs, ands or buts.
Tammy: Right well can I at least make a suggestion?
Carlos Dos Santos: Yeah shoot.
Tammy: Why not have someone who is a Liberal and a woman? Sadly the media sees you as well, misogynistic and oppressive when it comes to policy suggestions made by more left of centre Board members.
Carlos Dos Santos shakes his head in disbelief, not taking Tammy's comments overly serious.
Carlos Dos Santos: You should know better Tammy that I really don't care what the media thinks. I love women, I hired you after all didn't I?
Tammy: Well it's all just public opinion sir. I also fail to see the correlation between you hiring me and your policies on a grand scale.
Carlos Dos Santos: Look, do you see any protesting and rioting going on right now? Criminal activity in this city is at an all time low, I'd say that is indicative of me doing a good job...actually, no, a great job.
Tammy: Well could it be that Snowjay has had at least some part in that? What I am suggesting is that she could end up being our next Board member, and well she deserves a little bit of respect and recognition.
Carlos Dos Santos: Tammy, I nor this city believes in affirmative action, bottom line I am going to choose whoever is most qualified to do the job. Now if you'll excuse me I have to get to this meeting. It was nice chatting with you Tammy but I have unfortunately wasted way too much time and the Board members are probably getting restless by now. Ciao.
Carlos Dos Santos makes his way into the board room and Tammy walks away who is also not new to being unappreciated. Under her breath she mutters "Yeah right" in response to Dos Santos' comment about choosing whoever is most qualified.
